Major milestone for Aphra

I will be starting to make the rubber part of the mould on Tuesday and it will take about one week, then I have to make a resin and fibreglass outer jacket, with fixing points all along the seams, this will take about five days, then de-mould and put all the clay back into my orange buckets. Then we are halfway there in creating the statue of Aphra Behn.

The mould will be taken to the foundry where they will spend at least 14 weeks doing the lost wax process to create a bronze figure of what you see here.

Creating the clay figure, including making the armature, has taken 6 months, with time off for good behaviour at Christmas and Easter.

We hope to unveil Aphra in late October, beside the main high street in Canterbury, the town where she was born.
